The Method of Conditions

Follow the claimed achievement into the relations on which it depends.

From the record to the encounter

What has actually been performed?

A notice is delivered before a deadline. Does that establish that the recipient had an opportunity to answer? The words may be clear, the delivery record accurate, and the notice unusable for the person who received it. Each achievement has its own conditions.

The Method of Conditions asks what is being claimed, what makes that achievement the achievement it is, and whether those relations survived in the actual encounter. Another carrier may preserve the work. A certificate cannot replace work that never occurred.

The inquiry follows those dependencies from the claim’s content, through the act attempted, to the human being addressed. The findings meet only where their connection has been demonstrated.

Transcendental-geometric inquiry

The beginning and the path

Transcendental

The attempted denial of every condition of nonarbitrary fit still has to identify its target and distinguish a fitting application from a failed one. The securing argument follows the dependence that the denial itself retains.

Geometric

Each conclusion exposes the premises and connection through which it follows. A later result cannot serve as its own earlier ground, and a definition cannot perform the investigation whose result it names.

The universal beginning

AX.0 — The Law of Nature

Reality contains constitutive constraints on determinate identification and application. For whatever is determinately identifiable within reality, whether a being, thing, relation, operation, practice, or other determinate kind, and for whichever determinate question is asked of it, some identity-relevant condition in the target or target–application relation distinguishes fit from failure or inapplicability, so that admission cannot be wholly indifferent to what is claimed.

A shortened board may remain the same board while a claim about its length becomes false. Identity, attribution, membership, and successful performance ask different questions. Each has conditions under which the answer fits.

To deny every such constraint, the denial must still be identifiable as a denial of this claim. Once every difference between fitting and failing has been removed, the proposed counterexample loses the identification through which it was meant to count against the axiom.

AX.0 establishes universal accountability to nonarbitrary fit. The constitution of a particular being, the work of a practice, and the ground of political title require their own evidence and argument.

The political object

Binding Address

Binding Address names the inclusive field of actual or purported attempts by a claimant-position to present an addressee’s conduct as owed under a claimed normative requirement and compliance or refusal as answerable to that requirement.

Identifying an attempted demand opens the investigation. It does not establish that the work succeeded or that the claimant possessed a right to command.

Distinct inquiries, demonstrated connection

From content to the human being addressed

  1. Content

    Operational Threshold

What conduct or position has been specified? Can its commitments stand together, and can the asserted connection and performance conditions be identified?

  2. Act

    Practice Constitution

Is this information, a request, a threat, or conduct presented as owed? What work does the particular act require or undertake?

  3. Bearer

    Human Constitution

Who is actually addressed? The inquiry follows human embodiment, development, rational powers, dependence, and the conditions of their exercise.

  4. Join

    Material Bearing and Calibration

Where an established human condition bears upon required work, the act must realize that work adequately for the actual human being. A changed carrier can preserve the function; a completed procedure cannot supply an omitted achievement.

The Practice inquiry cannot select a convenient human being for its demands. Human facts cannot supply a political requirement that the Practice inquiry has never established. Calibration joins independently supported findings through their material connection.

The work under its own discipline

The discoverer does not appoint the standard

  1. Identify the object and the question.
  2. Establish the relevant condition through evidence and argument proper to that object.
  3. Test alternatives that claim to preserve the same identity or achievement.
  4. Follow the demonstrated dependence to its conclusion.

The standard answers to the relations being investigated. Neither the claimant nor the discoverer can establish it by declaration.
